In issue 1 of the Rag, I wrote an article called "Anger: Birthed and Transformed". We recently got a reprint request from Adbusters magazine, and I worked with them to edit it a bit for its readership. Here's a link to it on their website http://www.adbusters.org/magazine/80/industrial_childbirth.html - or search for it - it's now called "Industrial Childbirth".

Hi Shonagh.
I read your article in Adbusters and was really affected by it, especially as it confirmed a lot of suspicions I have increasingly had over the last few years. I also saw you noted on the AB website that you wouldn't write this article the same way today, and I was wondering if your response to your experience changed at all or is it simply that you would have approached the article in a different way?

Just read your article at Adbusters, and was affected, too. Affected and appalled by the amount of disrespect for you as a human being it describes. I can't know for sure, since I haven't had the experience myself (no kids), but such mistreatment might very well have caused me "PPD" (or more like "PTSD"). Apropos of the "cascade of intervention", that then might/would have continued on the psych-level.
hi fanny - sorry just saw your comment there! thanks for it. no i absolutely stand by the article - my responses to the experience remain - but i suppose my politics and understanding have changed in the meantime - the emphasis of the article would be different. i suppose i am disturbed that people are so apt to misinterpret what i am saying in the article (eg - that i am anti-technology) and missing that it has a feminist and a political point!
